You may create a blog for multiple reasons. Make your thoughts publicly available about any subject that pops into your mind, or create one to share your opinions on specific subjects such as technology. Whatever the choice is, there are always ways to monetize it.

In this article, I’ll tell you about 4 often overlooked ways of monetizing your blog.

Sell ebooks

You may be thinking, why sell ebooks on a blog that has nothing to do with book reviews, literature, or anything similar? The answer here is simple – since creating ebooks is very easy for any writer, there is an amount of them available all over the place. And, with that, they cover every topic imaginable.

Now, if your blog is focused on, say, trends in technology, new developments, and so on, you can always put an ebook for sale related to the subject you are writing about. With the market size of tens of billions of dollars, the only key thing here is to find an appropriate book and strike an affiliate deal with the author or the publisher. With each sale of the book via your blog, you will receive a commission.

On the other hand, if your blog is special enough and you do not find an ebook that would fit the subject, try writing your own. This would attract new readers to your blog and create a bigger revenue stream overall.

Use email marketing

Email Marketing

A wise thing to go for when you are writing a blog is to keep your readers reminded of new posts. This can be done by a simple subscription field on your blog where people can input their email addresses and receive an email when a new post appears.

Once you have a collection of such emails, you may start creating email marketing campaigns with product placements and other ads. Just as with ebooks, you would need to strike a deal with a provider of products and services that you would advertise.

Needless to say, though, it is a win-win situation. Your readers will remain loyal and will not forget your blog exists, and with that, they might just cave in and buy what you are advertising via your emails. Also, the revenue of such tactics speaks for itself.

Sponsorships

Sponsored posts are a popular way to monetize your blog. Basically, businesses will pay you to post their articles to your blog, and those articles will contain a backlink to the product they are trying to advertise.

Though it seems simple and easy, there are some things to look out for when accepting any sponsored posts. You have to double and triple-check whether the texts the business provides are in the same style as your usual blog posts.

You should also check what the business itself is and what kind of website they have. If it is related to frowned-upon content (gambling, etc.), it may have bad repercussions for your own blog as far as website rating goes.

Using referral systems

Various online services nowadays offer a referral system to attract new users and to incentivize already existing ones to stay for longer. Usually, referral systems work by providing something valuable to new users that join via a referral link and by providing something extra for the person who refers them.

For example, the app Honeygain, which offers passive income solutions, has a referral system that gives a $5 sign-up bonus for new users that register using a referral link while providing the referee with the equivalent of 10% of their referrals’ earnings. As this app works automatically in the background, it generates passive income for its users. The new user gets a boost while the existing one increases their overall earnings.

By adding your referral link to your blog, you can significantly increase your earnings via the said app and give a joining boost to your readers.

As you may know, affiliate marketing is still the most popular way of monetizing your blog, but it is not the only one, as you can see from this article. By using these arguably easier and overlooked ways, you are sure to make some successful monetization of the content that you love to write.
