Review Information Last Updated on: September 8th, 2016

Introduction to CoregMedia

CoregMediaCoregMedia is a service that provides Web publishers with the ability to display co-registration offers to its users. Co-registration offers are typically presented to users as they sign up for a site feature, such as a membership or newsletter subscription. Toward the end of the registration process, relevant offers are displayed that the user — having already submitted his personal information (name, email, phone, etc.) — may opt into.

Publisher Reporting & Admin Control Panel

CoregMedia Publisher Reporting & Admin Control Panel Rating: 4 out of 5.

CoregMedia publisher admin control panel

  • Control Panel: The CoregMedia admin control panel is very bare bones. Its design is seemingly straight out of 1998, complete with an animated GIF logo, which may raise some eyebrows as to the technical proficiency of the CoregMedia team. Aesthetics aside, the control panel does get the job done for the most part, though there are some omissions. There are pages for custom reports, getting code, billing, and account settings. But there is no form to update account information such as billing address, contact, phone number, etc.; also, there is no help or account support functionality within the control panel.
  • Reporting: Reporting, though rather bare bones, is pretty straightforward and provides data on all of the essential metrics that one would expect to see. The publisher has the ability to display reports by campaign, date, or sub ID. The sub ID tracking feature comes in particularly handy for the discerning publisher looking for more granularity in his reporting.

Editor’s CoregMedia Review

This editor’s review is limited for a few reasons. Principally, we were not able to be accepted as a publisher by this network, so we were limited in our ability to test it firsthand. We hope to update this review in the future with more details.

There aren’t a lot of solid co-registration networks for Web publishers, especially since GameTheory shut down its co-reg program a couple of years back. We have found Silverpath (review coming soon) and CoregMedia to be the top two co-reg networks, though both have their shortcomings.

Co-registration is a method of monetization wherein relevant offers are presented to users upon registration at a site.

By way of example, let’s consider a site about dental health. To access all of the site’s features and receive the weekly email newsletter with dental hygiene tips, registration is required. Upon registration, the user submits his name and email address. On the registration confirmation page, the user is presented with a thank-you message.

But, in addition to the thank-you message, the user is also presented with an opportunity to opt in to additional offers. Since this is a dental website, we’ll want to present offers relevant to dental health, general health, and hygiene. Some of the advertisers on this hypothetical thank-you page for our dental health site may include Colgate, Oral B, and 1-800-DENTISTS.

The offers are presented in such a way that the user needs only to check a box to receive additional information. (Remember: he has already provided his name and email address in the previous step, while registering for the dental health site.) Trancos CoregMedia is the middle man between the Web publisher (the dental health site, for example) and the advertiser (Colgate, for example).

CoregMedia has a list of hundreds, if not thousands, of advertisers and offers from which to draw. They display their most relevant offers on your registration page or confirmation page. These offers are typically CPL, or cost per lead. So the publisher earns revenue each time a co-registration offer is opted into by the user. Note that multiple offers are presented to each user, and it’s not uncommon for a user to opt in to more than one offer.

It’s important to know that publishers get paid not by the number of users who opt in, but by the number of offers opted into. Depending on the relevancy and number of offers presented on your registration funnel, the multi-lead rate (the average number of offers that a converted user opts into) can be higher than 1, sometimes approaching 2.0 or higher.

Unfortunately, there are some drawbacks to publishers displaying co-registration offers on their websites. For starters, you may end up serving up offers for your direct competitors. You’ll want to keep close tabs on which offers are running and be sure to shut down any that may be competing with your business.

Secondly, many of the offers don’t high CPL payouts; so your conversion rate and/or volume needs to be really high before you’re able to start generating any meaningful income that makes implementation worthwhile.

Overall, CoregMedia is rough around the edges: the control panel leaves much to be desired and the relevancy of the offers can be hit-or-miss. But we recommend giving them a try on your site (along with Silverpath) if you’re looking to monetize with co-registration. You may find them to be a winner, depending on your vertical and how your registration path is set up.
