Starting a blog is all the rave nowadays and everyone has their own reasons for doing so.

I've started plenty of blogs before MonetizePros, for a variety of reasons. Ranging from personal journals to niche sites created just to make money

1. You’ll become an incredible writer

becoming a better writer

Like any other form of communication, writing is all about expressing your own thoughts and more often than not, getting others to agree with you or to understand you.

When you’re blogging, your goal is to get your message through to the reader and as you’ll see, it’s not that easy. Because you’ll be writing to an audience, you’ll put more and more effort into getting your point across, thus becoming a better writer on the way.

It’s the perfect exercise for your brain.

2. You’ll become a better thinker

In everyday conversation, you usually get one chance to say something. Because it’s a real-time, engaging activity – often times you don’t have the time to really think about things.

When you’re writing something to thousands of people, you’ll go back and edit the post. You’ll look at what you’ve said and wonder if it makes sense to everyone. Is everyone going to understand it in the same way?

This means your thoughts will over time become deeper, clearer and more understandable. This will help you in all areas of life.

3. It'll become an income source for you

I don’t know about you but most of my hobbies are costing me a fortune. My scuba diving equipment was over $2,000, my electronic drum kit around $500 and I won’t even get into travel expenses!

Blogging is the only hobby I know of, where it’s the opposite – you’re the one getting paid!

Some of the top bloggers make $200,000+ per year while genuinely enjoying what they do.

4. You’ll inspire other people

Even though when I write on MonetizePros, you don’t really know what my daily life is like or what the blog makes. There’s still plenty of people who have a genuine interest in me and will listen to podcasts I appear on, talking about how I’ve built up MonetizePros or what it has helped me achieve.

It’s one of the greatest feelings on the planet to have a stranger reach out to you and thank you for inspiring them. It’s even better when you know that they’ve actually done something about it and thus, you’ve indirectly changed someone’s life. That’s how powerful blogging can be.

Just recently I received a 700 word message on Facebook from a young man who read my article on the Huffington Post and then took action about it.

5. It’s free (or extremely affordable)

When you’re starting out, it’s possible to create a blog without spending a penny. Once you start seeing success with and are certain that it’s something you’re willing to commit to, starting a real blog will not be much of an investment either. You can have a self-hosted blog for approximately 13 cents a day.

6. It gives you a confidence boost

Being more confident will lead to a happier and richer life.

As a blogger, you’re sharing your opinion on important matters and often times, you’ll be wrong. However, this will teach you that it’s alright to make mistakes.

You’ll get comments and emails with people flattering you and you’ll learn to not take them seriously. There will also be plenty of people criticizing your every move and you’ll develop self-control and learn not to get upset or angry about it.

7. It will help you learn new things

Learning new skills

I’ll be the first to admit that when I started running MonetizePros, I didn’t know a single thing about running SaaS businesses or using Amazon FBA to sell products. Now I could tell you everything about both of those business models.

There will be a time when just your existing knowledge isn’t enough to write a blog post and you’ll have to research things. It’s an excellent learning opportunity and as we all know, knowledge is power.

8. You don't need previous experience

Starting a blog in 2016 is so simple I could teach it to my 4-year old cousin and 84-year old grandma. You don’t need any programming experience, design knowledge or tech-wizardry. All you need is a little bit of time and a good tutorial such as this one.

The same applies for actually writing for the blog. Do you think the top bloggers create content out of nowhere? No.

They spend a lot of time doing research, reading other people's content, taking notes and then compile the best resource out there.

9. You'll develop an online brand

We all know the power of Brands. Nike, Coca-Cola, Facebook, Apple, Google and so on and so forth.

What do all brands have in common? They dominate a very specific industry. Whatever topic you're an expert on - stick to that and make yourself known for it.

If I've learned anything online, it's that it's always better to be "the online course guy" or "the seo ninja" over a general "internet marketer".

10. It builds your business network

While blogging I have not only made some amazing friends and met cool fellow-bloggers. I've had the opportunity to have Skype calls with CEOs of huge companies, go for dinner with amazing startup founders and plenty more.

The opportunities that blogging has brought my way are simply unbelievable. Seriously, you wouldn't believe half of them!

11. You'll be an expert

An expert only knows one more thing than you do - that's a fact. Everyone's an expert in something but this is your chance to become even better at what you do and show it to people in your field. The research you'll be doing for your blog posts will increase your expertise.

12. You will build a tribe

Your audience is not there just to read your stuff and leave comments. A lot of them will have massive respect for you and follow you almost anywhere.

These people will be all around online, in their own communities and spreading the word about you and your business. This can mean exponential growth and an amazing community/tribe you'll be a leader of.

13. It'll take your resume to the next level

Perfect resume

Most resumes have the same boring stuff on it and it can be difficult to stand out. This university, that university, who cares - that won't be what gets you your dream job.

What if you could tell your future-boss that you've been passionately writing about this field for the past three years and have an audience of 3,000 people who can confirm that you're an expert?

Now that's a resume.

Want to kickstart your own blog?

Since blogging has changed my life time and time again, I've created an extremely comprehensive, yet simple tutorial on starting your own blog. I'll even help you out throughout the process - personally!

14. You'll find your purpose

“What’s the meaning of life?” – a question with over 7 billion answers.

As you develop your blog, you’ll naturally gravitate towards some subjects more than others. Later on, you’ll have the opportunity to look back on that. Analyze and reflect upon what really matters to you.

What grinds your gears? What gets you excited? What gets you angry? What do you care about?

It really makes you more self-aware and helps you find your purpose, goals and ambitions.

15. It leaves your legacy

One of my favourite quotes is by Gary Vaynerchuk:

"Legacy over currency" - @Garyvee via @MonetizePros
https://monetizepros.com/blogging/46-reasons-start-blog-today/

Click to Tweet

Even after your gone, the contributions you've made online will likely still be there for quite some time. You'll be remembered as an expert, a contributor, someone valuable and important.

16. You'll understand what has meaning

Blogging isn’t twitter. You’re not going to be posting five times a day about random things. This means you’ll have to start filtering what you read, what you learn, what you think and decide what’s worth writing about, what isn’t.

You’ll quickly realize that the majority of things you read on a daily basis do not matter, at all.

17. You'll develop amazing habits

Blogging is hard. You’ll need to be consistent, disciplined, committed to your goals and most importantly, you’ll need time-management.

Just like anything else, these are skills and you get better at skills when you practice.

The benefits from these skills will carry over yet again into all areas of life. Whether that’s fitness, relationships or anything else.

18. You'll be a better conversationalist

Having a good conversation

Look.. Here's the thing..

As your confidence and knowledge grow about the topics you’re blogging about, you’ll also get more comfortable talking about these things in person.

This could come handy when pitching your service to a client, when doing public speaking or even in daily conversation. Enough of sweaty palms and the nervousness!

19. You'll learn a myriad of profitable skills

The amount of knowledge I've gained from starting blogs is ridiculous. Here's a brief list of them.

  • Search Engine Optimization
  • Web hosting
  • Copywriting
  • Advertising
  • Buyer psychology
  • Proper time-management
  • Knowledge of hundreds of small niches like drum kits, crossbows, contact lenses and god knows what

Blogging has made me a more well-rounded person in ways that no school ever could have.

20. You’ll be connected to a lot of new people

To be a successful blogger, you need to build relationships with other bloggers and everyone knows that. You’ll be surprised at how easily you’ll get to know other extremely ambitious and hard-working people – whether that’s through comments on your posts, email outreaches or podcast appearances.

I feel like I relate to some bloggers with whom I’ve connected with in blogging communities better than with real-life friends. It’s not just a bunch of link-trading and post-sharing – they’re real relationships.

21. Tons and tons of consulting work

On an average day I receive at least 5 emails from small businesses and huge corporations, asking if I'd be able to help them monetize their website or app. Some of them are looking for a one-time call, but I've received huge proposals, just from writing about my knowledge.

If you've got any kind of service business - having a blog will be amazing for you.

22. You'll have freedom

Freedom

This guy is probably a blogger...

I was never a big fan of Estonia, my home country. Thanks to blogging, I'm able to live in a tropical paradise in Thailand.

I never really enjoyed waking up early in the morning to go to the office either. Thanks to blogging I can sleep until 12 if I want to and finish work at night.

The important thing is - I'm the one in control of my life and all of the results I get are thanks to me, no one else.

23. You’ll become more well-rounded in your mindset

Even the smallest blogs in the world get comments on them and that’s great! Comments left by readers will often give you invaluable feedback and a fresh pair of eyes on your thinking and perspective.

You’ll often find a new way of looking at things or a better way to solve a problem.

24. You’ll become more comfortable under attention

Blogging will get you attention and most people are extremely uncomfortable with a lot of attention. They panic, don’t perform as well and in general mess up. This will help you overcome that.

You’re probably going to get married, right? Do you know how many people will be watching? Be prepared.

25. It can be a personal journal, documenting your life

Whether you’re blogging about internet marketing or your daily life – blogging will document your life. You’ll always be able to look back on your journey and notice a variety of things. I look back on posts I wrote a year ago and think “Wow, that was stupid” and it’s great to see that I’ve had progress.

You’ll become more observant about becoming a better person, making progress towards your goals and achieving personal growth.

26. It’s extremely gratifying

It’s extremely gratifying and fulfilling to see other people appreciating your work. The positive comments you’ll receive, the validation from knowing someone wants to sign up for your newsletter, important people with big audiences sharing the content you’ve worked so hard to create and so on.

27. It lets you help good causes

There are a lot of great causes out there that I care about but in the past, could do nothing about. Because with a blog comes and audience, you’ll be able to direct attention to the things that deserve it.

Whether it’s a fellow blogger fighting cancer, education in African countries or a local problem. You have a platform and you can use it to help others.

An amazing example of that is how an internet marketing blogger named Pat Flynn built a school in Ghana.

28. It's a challenge

Every aspect of blogging is a challenge. I like to think of it as a game, because I LOVE winning. It’s a challenge to come up with good post ideas, it’s challenging to write a great article and it’s even more challenging to market your blog and to get people to read your content and interact with it.

Every challenge you overcome will make you a stronger person and every challenge after that, whether blogging related or not, becomes much easier to deal with.

29. You'll develop an audience

Building an audience

Having an audience gives you huge authority and power. Over at MonetizePros we have 17,000+ email subscribers and hundreds of thousands of readers every month.

Everything we say comes with responsibility. We have a big impact on how websites are monetized, what kind of ads are displayed and that impacts a lot of people, including ourself.

30. It can have more power than governments

We've got a lot of problems in the world that no government takes care of. Whether that's poor education, horrible living conditions in certain areas or clean water. Things most of us take for granted.

There's been countless of examples how bloggers have used their audiences to do amazing things and change the world. For example, how Tim Ferriss used is blog to raise over $107,292 to help make clean water available in Gereb Tetealo Community, Ethiopia and 12 other areas.

31. You get to help other people

There's a million different ways a blog will let you help someone. Here's a bunch of examples:

  • Inspire someone to follow their dreams
  • Solve a problem with a tutorial
  • Change someone's thinking about an important subject
  • Raise funds for charity
  • You'll become a better person
  • You'll make other people want to help more

32. You'll build up better discipline

Blogging requires a lot of discipline. You have to stay on top of your editorial calendar, remember to follow-up with people, send out your weekly newsletters and stay focused on growing the business.

Lucky for you, discipline is a skill and blogging will help you become better at it. When you're able to run your blog successfully, hitting the gym 4 times a week will seem like a piece of cake, too.

33. You're going to have more credibility

It's one thing to have credibility in the form of a certificate or degree, but it's a completely different game when you can show results and social proof.

Who would you be more likely to hire as a writer for your business?

A) The girl who just graduated at the top of her class, studying English Literature

B) The girl with 75 articles published on Huffington Post, Entrepreneur.com and who has her own blog with an audience of 10,000+ people?

The choice is obvious.

34. You're more likely to be able to publish a book

There's been countless of stories of average people who received huge book deals from the best publishers in the world.

There's very good reasons for this and it makes sense.

Firstly, you'll have an existing audience, which means the publisher knows that you'll have the ability to actually get some book sales and hit the targets.

Secondly, everyone knows that bloggers are excellent writers, if they've been consistent 🙂

35. It'll get you public speaking opportunities

It's the ultimate recognition to get invited to speak in front of a huge crowd on something you're passionate about. But it's not an easy thing to achieve.

However, when you look at 80% of the speakers at conferences and other events, the majority of them have their own platform (such as a blog) and that's not a coincidence.

36. You'll receive freelance writing gigs

Once you actually start blogging, you will love the act of writing. Seriously.

When you've established a small portfolio of your work: guest posts, blog posts, interviews and so on, you'll start receiving requests from other bloggers and companies who want you to write for them, and they'll pay you for it.

It's great side-income while your blog is taking off and besides.. What's better than getting paid for something you enjoy doing?

37. It will become an addiction

Blogging is super addicting but it's one of the very few scenarios, where that's a good thing. You've already read over 30 benefits to starting a blog - your newfound blogging addiction will make sure you get the most out of these reasons.

38. You'll be a better observer

Blogging will make you start noticing things that others don't notice, thinking about things other people won't think about and asking questions, whereas everyone else will be nodding along.

All-in-all, you'll get a whole new perspective on many things. It's a different way of looking at things and a different way of thinking. A good one at that.

39. It's easier to stay in touch with people

I don't know about you, but I've become pretty horrible when it comes to staying in touch with family and friends. My blogging lets easily them stay up to date with what's going on in my life.

If you've got an extremely good, thought-provoking piece of content, you'll have old friends messaging you to compliment you and catch up.

40. It'll help your offline business, too

This is a big one and most companies overlook that. Even if you don't have an eCommerce store or don't really sell anything online - a blog is an important part of a modern business.

It's your opportunity to show your potential customers that you are an expert in the field and that they can trust you, your business and your recommendations.

I've forced clients to start blogs about crazy things, but they've all seen amazing results in the end. Here are some ridiculous examples:

  • Custom kitchen furniture sales
  • Contact lenses
  • Automatic gearbox repairs
  • Gardening tools
  • Crossbow salesmen
  • Streetwear stores

41. You'll be much more creative

Creative thinking

Whether it's while creating an image to illustrate your blog post, coming up with the initial idea or envisioning the full article when you start writing... Blogging requires creativity.

You'll start doing it on a daily basis and naturally, you'll get better at it. Where does this help you? In conversations, while doing marketing campaigns, when having fun - everywhere!

42. You'll start making better decisions

You cannot blog about anything and everything - you have to make choices about what to dedicate your time to. This will let you appreciate things with value and ignore all of the meaningless stuff.

It's the same thing in life. You've got to make a lot of decisions and you have to know which ones are actually worth thinking about and which ones have zero impact on your life or anyone else's.

43. Blogging brings happiness

There are so many things about blogging that make me happy on a daily basis. I'm happy when I see my blog growing, I'm happy when I get a positive comment, I'm happy when I make more money and I'm freaking ecstatic when someone sends me a 700 word Facebook message about how I changed their life.

44. It's an escape from your personal problems

We all need time off sometimes and blogging is perfect for that. It's like meditation in a way, but better.

In a bad patch and need an escape? Sit down and work on your blog - you'll stop thinking about it and come back with a clearer, more calm mind.

Depending on the type of blog you have and the audience you have - hell, you might even be able to ask your readers for advice!

45. It turns you into a contributor

Most people just take, take, take, take and consume. There are few people in the world truly contributing to something big and blogging is your chance to do so.

Think about it. How much as Wikipedia helped you? Have you ever even donated a dollar to them? Have you seen an ad on their website? Probably not.

Now is your chance to help others and join the other side. :)

46. It'll help you tackle your fears

What is the worst thing that could happen by blogging? It’s a really good thing for your opinion to be challenged from time to time, as it causes you to analyze it to make sure it is sound.

Putting your opinion and yourself out there is scary, but it's an irrational fear. While blogging, you're going to be learning a lot of things but the main takeaway will be that it's okay to make mistakes and be wrong.

Ever since I started blogging, I've gotten rid of my fear of cameras, public speaking, heights, blood and all sorts of things. It keeps me out of my comfort zone and makes me think about the worst-case scenarios in almost every situation.

Ready to reap the rewards?

MonetizePros has the best blogging tutorial out there. We'll show you everything from

A-to-Z and it'll take you less than 20 minutes.
